She said: “It is my calling and so far, it is going on well. I just did a new film and the director got seven nominations.”
Boyo attended the event dressed in a red gown made by leading indigenous designer House Of Deola Sagoe. She shot to prominence following her appearance in popular TV series, especially Checkmates, in the ‘90s. Also, her role in the movie Violated by Amaka Igwe served as a springboard for her to launch fully into Nollywood.
She is also renowned for producing the classic movie Keeping Faith, as well as To Live Again and 30 Days. Years ago, the mother of three took a break from the movie industry to focus on visuals for corporate clients. But in a 2012 interview with The Nation, she explained that she did not fully leave Nollywood.
She said: “Well I haven’t really been in Nollywood. I have been doing more corporate works, not feature films. I have done a few short films, documentaries and adverts for clients. That is what I have been focusing on.
“I try to keep my ears in there to see what is going on. I still get invited to these things because I haven’t left the industry. I still plan on doing films. I did a pilot for a soap opera early last year. I still work with quite a number of people in the industry and all of that.”
