Nigerian army burnt corpses of murdered Biafrans- IPO

– The IPOB has leveled fresh charges against the Nigerian army 

– They claim the army murdered Biafrans and burnt their corpses corpses to hide evidence 

– Thirteen dead bodies were found along the Aba-Port Harcourt rioad in Abia state

       In their official statement titled: “Nigerian army has destroyed evidence of crime against humanity by burning corpses of murdered Biafrans,” the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) inferred that the army has been operating outside the rules of engagement.

The pro-Biafran group said that on Friday, February 12, they discovered 13 murdered corpses of Biafrans which were dumped by “killer-soldiers” of 144 Battalion of the Nigerian army.

 IPOB said the dead bodies were found in a burrow pit located in Asa, along Aba-Port Harcourt Road in Abia state.

          “Human Rights Organizations, Amnesty International representatives, and other third-party organizations visited the location between 12th and 15th of February 2016 for on-the-spot assessment during which pictures were taken and video coverage made of the carnage executed by soldiers acting under the command of Lt-Col. Umar Kasim Sidi and his superior Brig-General Ibrahim Attahiru.
               
    On the 21st of February 2016, Brig-General Ayuba Tedman Hamman, the Provost Marshal of the Nigerian army, announced that an investigative team from the Nigerian Army has been dispatched to Aba to verify the authenticity of the news about the killing of Biafrans by soldiers of the 144 Battalion,”   the group’s statement partly read.

The IPOB further informed that Amnesty International had already commenced investigations and planned a second visit to the dump site. On their second visit to the site on the 1st of March 2016, the Amnesty International Representative (Comrade Justine Ijeoma) discovered that the corpses were up in flames in addition to different types of chemicals that were poured on the decomposing bodies. 

        “The foregoing leaves no one in doubt that the investigative team set up by Brig-General Ayuba Tedman Hamman was given the mandate to destroy any evidence of crime against humanity which stares the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Government in the face. 

The world is hereby put on notice that the Nigerian Army and their Commander-in-Chief have tampered with and destroyed the evidence that shows their culpability in genocide and crimes against humanity.
         But we are glad to announce that the pictures and videos are still with us and with our Lawyers at the ICC. Nigerian Army officials and Nigerian Government officials must be brought to book for these atrocities,” the IPOB noted.

 The IPOB statement was signed by Barrister Emma Nmezu  and Dr Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya. Meanwhile, the Department of State Services (DSS) has freed ex-national chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh. 

         The former national chairman of APGA was arrested on Thursday, March 3, at his Enugu residence and was taken to Abuja by road. Chief Umeh was arrested for allegedly sponsoring the recent pro-Biafra activities of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the IPOB.
