The vice president of the country, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has accused some Nigerian politicians of using religion to divide the country.
Daily Trust reports that Osinbajo accused some political leaders of also using ethnicity to oppress the people.

Mr Laolu Akande who is the special assistant to the vice president on media and publicity said during the weekend at the 2016 Khituk Gwong Day held at Fadan Kagoma in Kaduna state quoted the vice president as saying some selfish leaders from different parts of Nigeria had in the past tried to use ethnicity and religion to divide the country.
Osinbajo reportedly urged Nigerians to join the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in fighting evil perpetrators as
“there is the need to separate light from darkness”.

He said a new tribe of Nigerians will be formed and will be drawn from all faiths and tribes. “Nigerians of the new tribe are those who believe in truth, honesty, justice, among other virtues that advance the right course for the nation. “This new Nigeria must be based on love for each other and must value integrity”.

He noted that those who are stealing the country’s money were from different tribes in the country and they are united in their evil deeds.

“Those who are determined to do good, we must encourage them and we must not allow any kind of division to blur our determination”

Osinbajo said. The issue of division and separation of the country has been a major bane in the present administration. The agitation for an independent Biafra state has threatened the unity of the country with groups like the Indigenous People Of Biafra and Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State Of Biafra leading the agitation for the breakaway.

President Buhari has however reiterated that he would not tolerate the agitation for a separate state. His stance has sparked outrage from the agitators who said they would also not tolerate Nigeria.
